Community Groups

We have information about the following:

Walkers' Group          Whist Group           Writers' Group          Youth Club

Kinlochbervie Walkers’ Group

The Kinlochbervie Walkers’ Group was formed in February 2003 by a group of people who walk for enjoyment.

The group meets to walk twice a month, on the second Saturday and fourth Sunday from Spring until the end of October. Saturday walks start at 11 o’clock and tend to be longer than Sunday walks which begin at 1 o’clock. The meeting point is usually the start of the walk.

From November until Spring, conditions permitting, the group meets once a month, on either the fourth Saturday or Sunday.

The group uses the Community Bus for linear walks and for walks that are more distant from KLB. This leaves from the KLB Garage at a specified time for the particular walk. In the case of a scheduled walk having to be cancelled or changed notices giving these details are displayed at the Garage and the Bervie Stores.

The group also meets every couple of months on a Wednesday evening in the Harbour Offices to review and plan walks. Ideas for walks are always appreciated. Written details of these meetings together with details of the forthcoming walks are subsequently made available at Kinlochbervie Post Office. The Tourist Information Office in Kinlochbervie also hold a list of the group’s scheduled walks.

Membership to group is £2 for the year but occasional visitors are always welcome on walks. Whilst the group’s walks require only average fitness, the individual walker takes part at his/her risk and is entirely responsible for his/her own safety and that of his/her possessions.

The group’s chairperson is Rachel Mackay, Badcall, who can be contacted for further details.

Youth Club
KLB Youth Club was set up in August 2002.  The club meets on a Thursday evening during term time, from seven till nine pm in KLB High School.  At present there are 24 members, the club is open to young people from 12 to 25 years of age.

Members have the use of the games hall for a variety of activities, such as unihoc, badminton, five-a-side football and basketball.  The all-weather pitch is proving very popular.  There are also various board games available, plus a TV, video and music centre and tuck shop.  We are hoping to extend the activities available over the months to include craft workshops.

KLB YC has trips to Inverness using the Community Bus and has also taken part in the Highland Association of Youth Club's Fairburn Challenge which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part.

The club is hoping to set up a youth cafe in the planned refurbishment of the village hall.

We are run as a voluntary organisation and new volunteers are always welcome, at present the youth leaders are:
Marion McFadyen
Graham McFadyen
Margaret Meek
Mairi Eastcroft

To contact the group, write to the Youth Club c/o Kinlochbervie High School, Manse Road, Kinlochbervie, Sutherland IV27 4RG.
